03/09/23 Sun. I've spent the last few days helping out Chris on Moana who has a few problems with raw water pumps and one of his alternators. New pumps are on order. The parts needed for the alternator were a little more difficult! It was charging at 15.6v, which is way too high and would soon boil the batteries, so I suspected the regulator was faulty. Getting a new one proved all but impossible and only a complete bridge rectifier and regulator was available from the USA. Now we wait for delivery and hope it comes before he has to leave at the end of the month.
06/09/23 Weds. Collected a rental car this evening as we are going to Labuan tomorrow to collect a parcel from Sailrite.
07/09/23 Thurs. We set off at 0600 this morning for the first part of the drive down to KK and arrived there at 0900. A quick breakfast in Bread Boss and then the onward drive to Menumbok. We got there at noon and booked on the 1245 speedboat to Labuan (it was almost an hour late!), once in Labuan we went to the marina and collected our parcel, then on to Hup Fatt autostore to see if they had Hitachi alternators for Moana, but no luck. We booked a return ticket on the speedboat to Menumbok, ran into a little difficulty with Immigration in Labuan, who questioned Ana's reasons for coming to Labuan (but not mine). Once back in Menumbok, we drove to find our hotel in Beaufort, driving in torrential rain, at night, with no street lighting and with potholed roads which are susceptible to floods is not funny! The hotel itself is in an isolated position, and in the middle of major roadworks, we drove past the entrance three times in our search for the entrance.
08/09/23 Fri. Another 0600 start, arriving in KK at 0800 for breakfast. We then did some shopping in KK before heading back to Kudat where we arrived at 1600, took the car back and relaxed!
14/09/23 Thurs. The anniversary of my departure (17 years ago) from Gillingham aboard the good ship Rhumb Do.
15/09/23 Fri. Now it's 14 years since my Mum passed away and still not a day I don't think of her.
21/09/23 Thurs. The package with Chris's alternator parts arrived late this afternoon so I spent the early part of the evening soldering on the new bridge rectifier and regulator.
22/09/23 Fri. Raining again today but went over to Moana for Chris to fit his repaired alternator for testing - all good!
23/09/23 Sat. Another anniversary today.......60 years since I joined this bunch of reprobates and started my travels.
