07/11/22 Mon. We went to Immigration today to renew my
visa, another two months and 7,500 peso charge. The saga with
checking in goes on for visiting yachts, now Quarantine and Customs will
not issue paperwork unless the yachtie in question pays 2,500 to each.
Without those papers, they cannot check in with Immigration, but neither
department can point out the directive authorising those charges, nor
can they issue an official receipt! It all stinks of corruption!
20/11/22 Sun. Very little happening, I've been sorting out a few
little electrical problems, we've been to the Department of Foreign
Affairs and collected Ana's new passport (much quicker than her previous
experience in Manila). We've had constant rain for about the last
five days with no sign of it going away just yet.
26/11/22 Sat. This morning we had arranged a trip to the
subterranean river, so along with Kim and Mark, we gathered at the yacht
club at 7am. The minibus collected us at 8am and together with
four other 'tourists' we drove for almost 2 hours northwest across
Palawan to the river. This is a Unesco heritage site and claimed
to be one of the new 7 natural wonders of the world. Although we
enjoyed the trip, I was a little disappointed as it was not as
'spectacular' as I had imagined and I have seen much better caves around
the world. Nonetheless, it was a day out for us all!
28/11/22 Mon. Off this morning to BDO bank for Ana to open an
account. I can't believe the hoops you have to jump through to
open just a simple personal account! We had to visit the
Department of Trade and Industries to buy a licence, the Barangay City
Hall to obtain a permit and the bank twice to fill in numerous forms.
The whole process took four and a half hours and needless to say, my
patience was running thin by the end of it all.
