05/07/22 Tues. The fridge lid repairs continue, this
morning I took off the plywood surround which was rotten and cut away
the silicone edges for the new, slightly larger lid.
07/07/22 Thurs. The new surround for the fridge is made now
and coated in epoxy resin, just waiting for that to dry now.
09/07/22 Sat. Today, I resealed the new surround for the
fridge and Ana and I applied the first coat of primer to the hull
- 1 step nearer to splashing down again!
10/07/22 Sun. Applied the first coat of antifoul to the
hull this morning. Last night we had a squall come through and I
needed to go on deck to check noises we could hear inside. The
spreader light didn't work when I switched it on and it's only a couple
of months ago that I changed the deck plug for a different fitting.
On inspection, the power isn't getting up the mast to the light so I
think the wiring needs replacement and it's another holiday tomorrow, so
the shops will be closed.
11/07/22 Mon. 2nd coat of antifoul on by 11am this morning.
12/07/22 Tues. Chalk guide lines drawn on the hull at 0700,
third coat of antifoul applied by 1000. We went over to Mark and
Kim's boat (Zizi) after lunch to give them a hand with lines as
they launched and anchored in the pond. Then we went into town to
get some cable to run down the mast from the deck light - another job to
do!
13/07/22 Weds. Why do all 5 minute jobs turn into several
hours? Up the mast this morning to find the light fitting had a
broken rivet at the mast join, and, the rubber lamp holder was so hard
that I couldn't remove the lamp. OK, drill out the remaining 2
rivets, cut the cable on the whole fitting and bring it down to deck
level. Removed the lamp from it's holder after a struggle, fitted
the new cable in and back up the mast to re-rivet the housing to the
mast. Ran the cable down the mast and through the deck before
calling it a day. I think there is also too much resistance in the
cable from the fuse/switch panel, so perhaps that will also have to be
replaced.
14/07/22 Thurs. Fitted the new anode to starboard side
before going into town for some shopping and another length of cable to
run to the switch panel for the deck light. On return to the boat,
I cut back the old cable about 1 foot and changed the connector for
new....and the light now works. So I have spare cable which wasn't
needed - this time!
15/07/22 Fri. Spent the day removing seacocks and greasing
them, cursing and swearing at the heads ones because they had imperial
size nuts instead of metric, and they are hidden away between the
retaining flange and the body of the valves.
16/07/22 Sat. Emptied out the aft cabin lockers and dumped
a load of stuff which has been languishing there since I left UK.
Checked the speed impeller log (blank plug) had not become stuck in it's
sleeve with the antifoul paint.
19/07/22 Tues. We've been doing some of the 'odd' jobs,
paying the bill, tidying up etc. Today I went and filled two 20
litre jerry cans with diesel and a 5 litre petrol can. We are
scheduled to launch tomorrow at 1330.
20/07/22 Weds. In the travel hoist slings at 1130 and
applying antifoul to the patches where the blocks have been.
Launched after lunch at 1330 and motored over to our old spot next to
Shelley. Car arranged for tomorrow afternoon ready for the
drive to KK on Friday morning.-
22/07/22 Fri. A hectic day - drove down to KK, leaving at 0600 and
arrived at 0915, had some breakfast and onto the hospital to see the
oncologist, then to the ENT consultant to have camera down my throat
again. All the results were good, which is a relief! Then we
went to Dr Melinda Tong for a skin check up, again all good, "see you
next year" she said. Next, we drove out to Dongongon, to the
Medisinar Clinic in an attempt to get a second Covid booster vaccine but
they were closed until tomorrow so we went to Inanam to buy some
hardware needed for the sewing machine before finally checking into our
usual hotel.
23/07/22 Sat. Out to the Medisinar Clinic again but they
could only do the booster with an appointment. We tried Sunray
Clinic but they need 5 people to do the vaccine and suggested we try
Polyclinic. There, they can do it but not until 1200 tomorrow, at
least that's a result! Now we just needed to visit the fabric shop
and get some sunbrella material for a couple of jobs onboard.
24/07/22 Sun. A leisurely breakfast at Coffeebean in Damai,
a little shopping and then off to Polyclinic by 1145 - no worries there,
we were out again by 1200 with our jabs complete and the paperwork
updated. 1245 we set off for the return journey to Kudat and it
rained almost the whole of the way! Back onboard by 1700.
28/07/22 Thurs. Done a few more jobs on the boat (and other
boats!). I've been waiting until the boat settles into it's
natural shape after being hauled out, the toilet door has refused to
close until this morning, so it's now settling. I checked the
alignment of the engine and prop shaft today and all is good and within
0.25mm on all four quadrants. Ran the engine up and found the new
exhaust mixing elbow was leaking raw water badly. It took most of
the day to rectify that problem! Rest of the day was spent
repairing a broken toilet lid hinge and checking sea cocks for any
leaks.
29/07/22 Fri. We went into town this morning to make a
dreaded visit to Immigration. The immigration officer recognised
me, told me I had applied for extension on the 9th May, and then said
they had heard nothing from their HQ in KK and to go away and just wait.
That's fine by me but it does seem a little strange to apply for a 30
day extension........3 months ago!
31/07/22 Sun. Odd tidying up jobs around the boat, mostly
just cosmetic.
