01/01/14
Happy New Year to all my friends, my
family and other sailors around the World.
Andreas, Astrid and I drove to Erpel on the opposite
side of the Rhine to Remagen, the site of the Ludendorff Bridge which
was the last river crossing standing during the Second World War.
The museum is on the Remagen side of the river and is not open at this
time of the year, so we just had a wander around and took a few photo's
of the remaining bridge support towers.
05/01/14 With Ellen and Astrid, taking
Leah to the airport at Cologne for her homeward journey to Gibraltar.
06/01/14 To the airport again, this time
with Andreas, Astrid and Jordan, as he was flying back to London today.
08/01/14 My turn to depart! Again,
Andreas and Astrid came to the airport with me to catch the 5.30pm
flight back to Gatwick. Once in the UK, I was met by Trev and Babs
to take me to their home in Kent. Some photo's
here.
12/01/14 Drove up to London with Ann to
visit the London Boat Show at the Excel Centre as I need several spares
and hardware replacements for the boat, but I was disappointed in the
content of the show. Previous years have been good, but this year
wasn't so....only one hall rather than two, very little in the way of
chandlery accessories, stalls without basic stocks and fewer people
visiting - although it was the last day of the show. The upside to
my visit was that I saw old friends Davey and Kate of "Roamer" from
Turkey, and Kevin of "Nadine" also from Turkey. Nice to catch up with you
guys!
13/01/14 Happy
Birthday Babs!
17/01/14 Went to 'my' doctors surgery
this morning to get a prescription for my meds, waited two and a half
hours to see the Doc.....and my records had not been sent from
Lancashire! However, got my prescription after a little
examination. Picked up a rental car and drove down to Portsmouth
to look in the Marine Super Store at Port Solent, came away with
nothing! Met up with daughter Kim and friends Wyn and Lyn for a
coffee before driving back to Kent.
19/01/14 Spent an hour or so with
friends Tony and Sheila in Faversham, catching up with all their news.
24/01/14 Took the rental car back, went
to the opticians for my arranged eye test - all OK and no new glasses
required. Into Nationwide to sort out a credit card problem which
they are unable to do until next Tuesday. Over the last week I've
chatted with Les - a neighbour from Larkfield, Dave Watts - an
ex-driving instructor, and seen former examiner colleagues Lynton and
Tracey but I was unable to talk with either, and I also had a coffee
with Angie who sailed with me in Turkey.
31/01/14 Tuesday's trip into town to the
Nationwide was a waste of time because the problem could still not be
addressed, so another appointment today - and finally a result!
