01/02/22 Tues. Happy Chinese New Year!
Spent most of the day making frames for mosquito nets to fit the two
hatches. I haven't figured out how I am going to fit them under
the hatches yet!
06/02/22 Sun. After a dry January, we now have rain!
It's been coming down hard since about midnight last night, so that's 14
hours so far! At least we've managed to fill all the water tanks
on Rhumb Do and Shelley!
14/02/22 Mon. A few days in KK for more treatment and tests
at Dr Melinda Tong's - we drove down on Friday and came back yesterday
afternoon. She wants to see me again in about 2 weeks time, so
that's another trip to KK on the cards. As we were leaving on
Friday morning, I noticed the LED lamp had fallen from the bottom of the
port nav light, caused by the screwed retaining collar breaking up in
the sunlight. Last night I removed it all with a view to epoxying
it together again but in walking from the bow to the cockpit, one part
of it disappeared! I must have dropped it overboard without
noticing! Oh, well, the lenses on both stbd and port are crazed,
so it's a case of ordering new from the UK.
15/02/22 Tues. We went over to the museum with Craig today
to have a look around. There isn't much in there apart from the
artefacts that Craig has supplied and he is cleaning them up as fast as
he can in preparation for display. After that, we went to the yard
to see about arranging a haul out but it seems that the travel hoist has
broken a gearwheel and they are waiting for a new part to arrive.
I guess we will have to wait a little while longer!
19/02/22 Sat. The two new mossie nets are now fitted to the
underside of the hatches. The aft cabin has been emptied
(transferred to Shelley!) in readiness for dropping the rudder
out when we finally get hauled from the water. No news of the
travel hoist repairs as yet.
21/02/22 Mon. OK, the travel hoist is fixed! We are
scheduled to haul out tomorrow morning at 10am. Ana's passport has
been returned (along with the refund) from the embassy in KL. My
new nav lights are 'delayed' in Sepang, KL.
22/02/22 Tues. In the slings at 10am and hoisted from the
water, moved to our new 'home' on the gravel at the far side of the
boatyard. The antifoul is in reasonable condition after 5 years in
the water! We dug a hole under the rudder, undid the steering
quadrant and the rudder bottom shoe, and dropped the rudder from the
boat. I was pleased to see there was no immediate evidence of
corrosion around the stock so we should just need a new lipseal from KK.
Removed a worn out sacrificial anode from the stbd side.
23/02/22 Weds. The cutlass bearing is shot, so I borrowed a
3 leg puller and tried to remove the propeller, but it doesn't want to
play! I left the puller tensioned overnight in the vain hope that
it would pull off during the night.
24/02/22 Thurs. No luck with the propeller removal this
morning, so I removed the puller and repositioned it before applying
tension again. After an hour or so, it still hadn't moved and I
got the workshop to apply heat with oxy gear and it popped off after a
couple of minutes. Now to remove the cutless bearing housing!
25/02/22 Fri. A totally wasted day! I have managed to
arrange an appointment with the ENT specialist at KPJ Hospital in KK for
10am on the 2nd March but I have to have a PCR test 48 hours beforehand.
Today, we went to the main clinic to get the test, and was told to go to
the Health Department out of town. On arrival there at 12 noon, we
were told they were closed for lunch until 2pm, so we waited outside
with all the mosquitoes for two hours. With no sign of them opening, we
asked in reception again and were told they were closed until Monday!
OK, off to Angeline Cheong's clinic back in town, she told us she does
not do PCR tests and we should go to the Family Care Clinic on the other
side of town. On arrival there, we once more drew a blank as they
don't do PCR tests until Sunday. Give up, cancel the hospital ENT
appointment and continue with no voice!!
26/02/22 Sat. OK, new plan.......we will go to KK on
Tuesday morning, get a PCR test there in the afternoon and hope the
results come in on Thurs afternoon. We have rescheduled the ENT
appointment for 9.30am on Friday. Fingers crossed! On the
boat front - with the cutless bearing housing now removed, it is obvious
that the alignment of the shaft and stern tube are incorrect, which may
be a major problem to rectify. Now searching for a replacement
cutless bearing from the UK. My new navigation lights arrived
today, so I have another job to do at some point.
28/02/22 Mon. I
unbolted the shaft coupling today and the prop shaft centralises itself
in the stern tube, so perhaps it will be possible to re-align the engine
without having to take it out! The store in the yard does not have
the anode size that I need, so I will have to look in KK and see if I
can find one there. No more work now until we return from our trip
to KK, go tomorrow, come back late Friday.
