02/08/25 Sat. OK, the problem with my tablet from Amazon
being delivered is that I need a permit to 'import' any multimedia or
telecommunications device. To get that I have to open an account
with a Malaysian Gov. site, fill in all the particulars and apply for a
permit. The problem now is that I can't open an account because
firstly the site rejects my email address and secondly my password and
user ID. Each time, it asks that I change the password, which I've
done so many times over the last two days that I've now no idea what the
password is. It is driving me up the bloody wall!!!
08/08/25 Fri. After exchanging over 70 e-mails and 20 WhatsApp
messages, the Gov Site SIRIM QAS tell me that I'm in the wrong place and
need to apply to the Marine Department - no website, no address, no
phone number, nothing! I gave up and asked Amazon for a refuind
which they gave me. Do not use UPS for any shipments guys!
09/08/25 Sat. The oven is being shipped by DHL, let's hope
they have more success than UPS!
14/08/25 Thurs. Picked up Tom and Sheryl, in a hire car, at 0530
for the drive to KK. The trip down took four and a half hours because of
road works and heavy traffic, which ultimately cut our available time
for shopping for certain things. We set off back to Kudat at 1530
and immediately ran into standstill traffic from KK to Tuaran. Arrived
back in Kudat at 2000 hrs. During the drive down, DHL phoned me
asking for ships papers etc.
19/08/25 Tues. OK, the oven is being held in Customs at KK
and I am exchanging e-mails and telephone calls with Antonia in DHL.
Customs say it's not ships spares and want to charge import fees.
We are playing the waiting game again to see if they relent, otherwise I
will just pay the fee and have done with it!
20/08/25 Weds. The oven has cleared customs! No duty payable.
22/08/25 Fri. The oven arrived in the yard this morning at
1000hrs, brought in by Pos Malaysia. We went over and got it into
the dinghy, brought it back to the boat and unpacked it - all good, no
damage to speak of. Now I will have to start removing the old one,
measuring up for the necessary alterations to the cabinet space, carry
out the alterations and find a store that sells gas fittings to connect
to the gas pipe. That means we will be without a cooker for a week
or so.
28/08/25 Thurs. Rented a car again and picked up Sheryl at 0530
for the trip to KK. We had a good journey down with hardly any
traffic and were having breakfast in Damai at 0900. Dropped Sheryl
off for her dental appointment and went to Inanam in search of gas
fittings and a micrometer - managed to get both! Picked up Sheryl
again and after a late lunch we set off back to Kudat. Not such a
good return trip as we had heavy traffic, strong winds and torrential
rain, I was slowing to almost a stop in some places as I couldn't see
anything. The journey back took us five and a half hours!
